Blogmas Day 24 =] Christmas Traditions =]

Hello Everyone =]

Today, I'm talking about Christmas traditions. I only do 1 every year, which is to open a present on Christmas eve.

Me, my mum and my sister always choose a present to open in the night time.

Its been a tradition since i was a child.

Christmas Traditions Around The World:

Belgium: Christmas morning is celebrated by eating a sweet bread, called ‘cougnou’ or ‘cougnolle’ the shape of which is supposedly similar to the shape of baby Jesus.

Finland: At midday the Christmas peace declaration is broadcasted on radio and TV from the Finnish city of Turku by its Mayor. In the evening, a traditional christmas dinner is eaten which consists of stews and casseroles. Once this has finished, people then go to church and the graveyard. After all of this, families then share their presents with each other, as father christmas arrives while they are out.

France, Germany, Hungary and Romania: Children must clean and polish their shoes, and place them either next to their door or next to their window. In these shoes, small red bags will be placed inside them which will be filled with small goodies, such as pens and sweeties.

Canada & America: Christmas is straightforward in both Canada & America. They have Christmas parades where crowds gather to watch christmas characters pass them by and cheer when they throw small gifts to the children. Many put their Christmas trees up very early. Once thanksgiving is by with, many people put their tree’s up and decorate their homes for the festive season.

Australia: The most popular event of the Christmas season is called Carols by Candlelight. People come together at night to light candles and sing Christmas carols outside. The stars shining above add to the sights and sounds of this wonderful outdoor concert.

China: They decorate their homes with evergreens, posters, and bright paper chains. Families put up a Christmas tree, called a "tree of light," and decorate it with beautiful lanterns, flowers, and red paper chains that symbolize happiness. They cut out red pagodas to paste on the windows, and they light their houses with paper lanterns, too.

Spain: The Christmas season begins in Spain on December 8, with a week long observance of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Evergreens decorate the churches and outdoor markets throughout the Christmas season. Tambourines, gourd rattles, castanets, and miniature guitars are offered for sale to enliven the singing and dancing in the streets. Children go from house to house reciting verses or singing carols for sweets, toys, or small instruments.

Sweden: In Sweden, the Christmas festivities begin on December 13 with St. Lucia's Day, which celebrates the patron saint of light. The eldest daughter gets up before dawn and dresses as the "Queen of Light" in a long white dress. She wears a crown of leaves. Singing "Santa Lucia," the Lucia Queen goes to every bedroom to serve coffee and treats to each member of the family. The younger children in the family help, too. The whole family helps to select the Christmas tree just a day or two before Christmas.
